According to a CNN analysis, the 80th school shooting in 2023 happened at UNLV campus in Las Vegas on Dec 6 when a 67-year-old career college professor caused the death of three people, leaving one person injured but in stable condition.
The incident took hold at 11:45 a.m. when a call was made to the authorities about an active shooter at the university’s Lee Business School. Additional shots were reported at the Student Union building.
The university students and staff were evacuated to safest and by 12:37 p.m. the police reported the suspect was dead. However, this was sadly before three victims died after being sent to the Sunrise Hospital for trauma injuries. One person survived a gunshot wound and is in stable condition.
The suspected shooter at the University of Nevada Las Vegas is dead but his name has not yet been revealed as police await information from their next of kin.
The shooting prompted UNLV’s closure for the week, affecting flights at the nearby airport and leading to the cancellation of a basketball game.
President Biden expressed condolences and urged Congress to address gun control.
This incident marks the 80th US school shooting in the US this year, with 51 on K-12 campuses and 29 at universities.
